Description
Moonmask is a simple study of abstraction focusing on the subject of a face, or more likely a mask. It is a very approachable subject that provides an instant connection and relation for a viewer, drawing from it a narrative easily imagined. Primitive styling, strong geometric elements with bright color and texture help create this unique narrative that captivates. Living here in the desert southwest I am constantly reminded of the history of this rugged territory. And for this piece I chose the moon as my muse. Nighttime hikes in the Santa Catalinas offered great inspiration for this piece. Bringing these two ideas together makes for a powerful visual that will keep a viewer coming back time and again hoping to glean some truth about life and our history.
